Seven days shy of her 72nd birthday, my mother, Sylvia Madden Godwin, stepped over the threshold of time into eternity. She was an extraordinary person. She was a faithful wife for fifty-five years, a devoted mother of seven children and “Memaw” to fourteen grandchildren. She was also "mom" to two sons-in-law and three daughters-in-law. She was a fabulous cook, an avid internet stock trader, a bold Christian witness and a generous supporter and promoter of God’s work. She also played the piano and loved to sew.
Praying hands adorned the four corners of her casket as a testament to her powerful prayer ministry. She was no average Christian. She was involved in children’s and youth ministry for many years, she also taught many adult Bible classes. She was a prophetess who heard from God through prophecy, visions and words of knowledge. She left a rich spiritual heritage and legacy to me that I will always cherish.
She was the kind of woman you read about in Proverbs 31:28, 30, “Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her…charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”
The photo gallery that follows is a tribute to her life, faith and strong influence in our family.
